Debit means left and credit means right. Neither word means good, bad, increase or decrease by itself. The account type supplies that meaning. Debit an asset to increase it and credit it to decrease it. Credit a liability or revenue to increase it and debit it to decrease it. Expenses and draws normally increase with debits.
An entry needs equal total debits and credits. That equality is a useful control, but a balanced entry can still use the wrong accounts. First describe the event in ordinary words, then choose accounts, then assign sides. Keep accumulated depreciation separate from equipment so the original cost remains visible.
