A matrix question shows a 3 by 3 grid with the last cell missing. Rules can run along the rows, down the columns, or both, so read the grid both ways. Across each row, what changes from left to right: number, size, rotation, shading? Down each column, is something fixed, like the shading? Sometimes every row holds the same three shapes in a different order, and sometimes the third figure in a row is the first two laid on top of each other.
The answer has to fit its row and its column. A common wrong option just copies the cell above or to the left, so check your choice in both directions.
Odd one out questions show five figures. Four share a property and one doesn't. Compare counts first (sides, dots, shapes), then shading, then direction. If nothing jumps out, describe two figures in words and compare the descriptions.
