S3 stores objects in buckets. Each object has a key; a slash in that key creates a useful prefix convention rather than a traditional directory. Uploading to reports/current.csv and uploading to current.csv create different keys. Case matters too.
Versioning keeps separate versions when you overwrite an object. A normal delete in a versioned bucket creates a delete marker instead of erasing every historical version. You can recover an older version, but you still need appropriate access and a retention plan. The exercises ask you to preserve existing data while adding a key or enabling versioning. Inspect the complete key and the bucket setting after the command, especially when two objects have similar names.
