Consulting slides are read title first, and many readers only read the titles. An action title is a full sentence that states what the slide proves. A topic label ("Revenue by channel") makes the reader work it out.
A good action title:
- states one message, the so-what, in a full sentence;
- includes the number that proves it: "Online grew from 18% to 34% of sales since 2023";
- fits in two lines, roughly 15 words or fewer;
- matches the chart below it. If the chart shows costs, the title is about costs.
Test: read only the titles of a deck in order. They should tell the story on their own.
In this lesson you edit slides in a PowerPoint-style editor. Double-click a title to type in it, and press Esc when you’re done.
