A 2x2 matrix sorts options on two dimensions at once, such as impact and effort, or how attractive a market is and how well the client could win it. Each quadrant gets a name, and the slide's message is usually about one quadrant: "start with the quick wins".
Three habits keep a 2x2 honest:
- Read both axes before you place anything. Which direction is "high"? Axes aren't always impact up and effort right.
- Place items clearly inside a quadrant. An item on a dividing line tells the reader nothing.
- Use the data, not instinct. If the scores say medium effort, the item goes where the scores put it.
In the editor, drag each item from the right-hand column into its quadrant. Hold Shift to keep a drag straight.
