Aster Supply revenue discrepancy
The finance lead needs the cause and size of a reporting discrepancy. The supplied report_extract copies bronze orders and repeats order 2; customer_regions copies the customer id and region lookup and repeats customer 102. Revenue includes completed and refunded rows with known amounts, including orders with no customer key. Deliver duplicate evidence, unique order detail, a fanout measurement, corrected regional revenue and a reconciliation showing each overstatement separately.
Aster Supply's finance lead has found two different revenue totals for the same reporting period. The report extract repeats one order, and a copied customer-region lookup repeats a customer. Those are separate problems: removing the duplicate order will not stop the lookup join from multiplying valid orders.
Apply the stated reporting policy first, keeping signed refunds and orders whose customer key is missing. Save duplicate evidence, rebuild a unique order detail and measure the lookup join's row growth. The corrected report uses the region recorded on each order, so it does not need that lookup at all. Finish with checked monetary differences for the duplicate extract and the join fanout. Base and hidden data change the amounts and the number of source rows. Calculate the differences from saved tables rather than entering the figures you happen to see in one run.
