A restricted view can project approved columns and filter approved rows. Aster Supply's regional partner needs order id and amount for East records. The partner does not need customer email or records from other regions. Define that output explicitly instead of granting SELECT on the raw table and asking the recipient to filter it.
A view only protects the intended boundary when the recipient cannot bypass it through broader base-table access. Review direct grants, inherited grants and group membership. Unity Catalog also supports row filters, column masks and centralized attribute-based policies where configured. A view demonstrates the data boundary here, while production policies need identity and feature configuration. Managed sharing and federation solve other access problems: sharing exposes approved data to recipients, and federation queries supported external systems. Neither makes the need for a precise recipient scope disappear.
