INDEX and MATCH split a lookup into two simple steps.
MATCH(lookup_value, lookup_array, 0) returns the position of a value in a list. =MATCH("Brno",A2:A12,0) returns 9, because Brno is the 9th city. The 0 asks for an exact match, like FALSE in VLOOKUP.
INDEX(array, row_num) returns the value at a position. =INDEX(C2:C12,9) returns the 9th rent index.
Put them together and MATCH feeds the position to INDEX:
=INDEX(C2:C12,MATCH(F2,A2:A12,0))
This works in every version of Excel, can look in any direction, and doesn't break when someone inserts a column. Give INDEX a block and two MATCHes to look up by row and column at once.
