Checkout can select an existing branch or restore a path, depending on its arguments. That overloaded behavior makes careful reading important. Here you switch between already prepared branches and inspect the file that belongs to the destination snapshot. Creating a new branch with a similar name would not recover the existing work. Later exercises use restore for file-only changes so the intent is easier to read. Preserve the other branch as a reference. If the feature committed a west route and main still contains east, selecting feature should restore west. Merely renaming the current branch cannot retrieve that other snapshot or its parent history.
