A commit records the index with a message and parent history. It does not include an unstaged edit simply because that file is visible in the editor. A useful subject names the completed change. Stage the intended content, commit it, and inspect status afterward. These tasks require a clean working tree for the requested delivery file, so a message alone cannot satisfy them. The commit graph shows the new snapshot and its relationship to the starting commit. A silent add followed by a successful commit is still worth checking. The graph should gain one snapshot with the intended subject, and status should show whether a later working edit was left behind.
