Restore copies a selected version into the working tree or index. The ordinary path form discards an unstaged working edit without moving the branch. That is narrower than a hard reset of the whole repository. Confirm that the discarded text is the unwanted draft and retain nearby edits when asked. Git cannot recover arbitrary uncommitted content after every destructive action, so read status before running a restore outside this exercise. For example, restore route.txt can undo a draft while preserving an unstaged note in another file. A repository-wide reset has a broader scope. Match the operation to the smallest path named in the request.
