Revert records a new inverse change instead of deleting the original commit. That makes it useful for a change already shared with other people. The old history stays visible, and the current tree reflects the rollback. A hard reset may produce similar file content locally but rewrites the branch reference instead. These tasks require the inverse commit and the restored baseline so the rollback remains auditable in the graph. The graph should gain a commit whose tree reverses the delivery while the original subject remains reachable. This retained record lets another person understand why the current route differs from that earlier release.
