Mid standard
- Adjusted books are 5190 less the unrecorded 40 fee, also 5150. I debit bank fee expense and credit cash for 40 because the statement reveals a book omission; I retain the source statement as support.
- I match individual transactions, dates and identities because equal totals can conceal offsetting missing or duplicate records. I inspect old outstanding items and make sure the opening balance agrees to the prior signed reconciliation.
- I retain the statement, item-level reconciliation, supported fee entry and reviewer approval because a zero difference alone isn't an audit trail. I leave genuine outstanding items open and assign investigation of stale ones rather than using an unexplained adjustment.
