A rename changes a path without keeping a second copy at the old name. That differs from cp even when the destination contents look correct. Before moving a file, inspect nearby names: a generic approved.txt can belong to another batch. Use the complete requested name and confirm the old path is gone.
A successful command can still overwrite a colleague's record if you choose the wrong destination. The destination's type affects the operation. An existing directory receives the file inside it, while an existing regular file can be replaced. Quote a path that contains spaces so it stays one argument. After a rename, read the requested destination and check that the neighboring approved record still contains its original text.
