Project: archive and restore verification
The records manager at Pine Works needs a source-preserving backup and a tested restoration. Deliver a copied record, a gzip round trip, a compressed directory archive, the restored nested tree and a final verification note.
Create a records backup that you can restore and inspect. Start with a source folder containing a record and a nested checksum note. Preserve a separate copy, compress a single record, then restore it before building the directory archive. The distinction matters: an individual gzip stream does not retain a folder tree. Extract the archive into a new directory and confirm the restored record. Your final manifest names the checked restore rather than merely claiming a backup succeeded. These tasks continue the same workspace, so retain every earlier source and intermediate artifact as you build the deliverable.
