Switch compares one input with the value on each case. It is useful when a field such as department has several exact categories. Each matching case contains its own actions. The Default branch handles a value that matches none of them, including a new category introduced after the flow was built.
A Switch is not a collection of threshold comparisons. Use a Condition when the rule asks whether an amount is above a limit. For exact routing, keep the case values consistent with the source contract and don't assume blank means the first department. In this lesson Northline routes Parts and Returns messages to different desks. Unrecognized categories go to manual review, preserving the message instead of silently dropping it. Hidden events include a category absent from the visible event so the default path does meaningful work.
