Most cleaning in Power Query takes a handful of moves, and each one becomes a step:
- Replace Values swaps one value for another, such as N/A for
null.
- Trim (Transform > Format) removes spaces before and after text. They're invisible in the preview, but " Camp Stove" will never match "Camp Stove".
- Fill Down copies a value into the empty cells below it, for reports that write a region once per block.
- Remove Rows drops blank rows, duplicates or rows with errors.
- The filter arrow in a header drops rows such as a Total line.
There are two kinds of empty: null means no value, while "" is text with no characters. The column quality bar under each header counts both as Empty.
Order matters. Remove blank rows before you fill down, or the blank rows get filled too and stay.
