The planning team is reviewing a different slice of the retailer: 2024 store results and the first period of 2025. Each task starts independently. Keep the Date table as your common calendar, and make the meaning of each period explicit before you write DAX or move a hierarchy level.
Year-to-date, a prior-year comparison and a rolling window answer different questions. A new store has no prior-year sales, while a partial month still contains real transactions. Treat those cases deliberately. The visual tasks ask you to distinguish next-level navigation from expansion; the measure tasks check the result again under changed filters, so a fixed date or a memorized total will fail.
