Who asked: Leo, who runs a small online tea shop.
The change: from March 1, 2026, orders of $50 or more ship free. Before that every order paid $6.95 shipping.
The question: "Did it pay off? I want to know if people spend more per order now, and whether that extra spend covers the shipping fees I no longer collect."
The data: 40 orders on the Orders tab, January to April: date, order number, subtotal and the shipping charged.
What done looks like: average order before and after, the share of $50+ orders before and after, the shipping given up, the extra order revenue, a monthly trend, and your Yes or No in H8.
This case study uses the Advanced level's tools on a before-and-after question, the most common analysis in small businesses. You split the orders at a date with AVERAGEIFS and COUNTIFS, compare the two periods, check the trend month by month with QUERY, and then decide.
Two cautions as you work. Compare like with like: both periods have 20 orders here, but always check. And a result is only as good as the measure: this case compares revenue, not profit, which the brief accepts.
