Many interviews for analyst, operations and admin roles include a live spreadsheet task: the interviewer shares a sheet and asks a run of short questions, often while you share your screen. The early questions check the everyday tools, and how calmly you use them.
Habits that help in a live screen:
- Say what you're doing as you type: "I'll use SUMIF, matching the region in column D."
- Refer to cells, never retype numbers that are already in the sheet. Interviewers often change a value to see if your answer follows.
- Check the edge the question hides: "3 or more" includes 3, a missing product needs a fallback, a percent change divides by the old value.
Any formula that gives the right answer is accepted here, and each answer is also checked on changed data.
