MAX(range) and MIN(range) return the largest and smallest numbers in a range. Like SUM, they skip empty cells and text, so a shift that reported nothing doesn't count as 0.
Three counting functions answer three different questions:
COUNT(range) counts cells that hold numbers. Text, even "n/a" or a number typed as text, isn't counted.
COUNTA(range) counts cells that are not empty: numbers, text, TRUE/FALSE, and even an empty text "" returned by a formula.
COUNTBLANK(range) counts the empty cells.
Picking the wrong one is a common slip in reports. If a column should hold numbers, COUNT tells you how many real values you have; COUNTA tells you how many cells someone filled in, whatever they typed.
Select a few cells and open the summary at the bottom right of the window to see Min, Max, Count and Count numbers without a formula.
