Estimate the quantity that will change your design. Daily volume gives average throughput after division by 86,400 seconds. Peak throughput needs a separate factor or a measured peak supplied by the problem. A system sized only for the average can be overloaded every morning even when its daily capacity looks adequate.
Write units through every calculation. Decimal gigabytes use 1,000,000,000 bytes; gibibytes use 1,073,741,824 bytes. State whether storage includes replicas, indexes and retention. Bandwidth is a rate, while storage is an accumulated amount. For the fictional workloads below, use decimal units and the inputs given. A rough estimate with explicit assumptions is more useful than several precise digits whose meaning is unclear. The checker allows a 2% rounding difference but requires the requested unit.
