Actions make a dashboard interactive: the reader clicks a mark on one sheet and the other sheets respond.
The quickest way is the funnel button on a sheet's title bar, Use as Filter. It creates a filter action from that sheet to every other sheet on the dashboard. For full control, use Dashboard > Actions... > Add Action:
- A filter action keeps only the clicked member on the target sheets.
- A highlight action keeps everything and fades the other marks, so the reader still sees the context.
- Run action on says when it fires: when the reader selects a mark, or just hovers over it.
The setting people forget is Clearing the selection will. Show all values brings the targets back to everything. Keep filtered values leaves them showing the last selection. Exclude all values leaves them empty until the reader picks something, which suits long detail lists.
