Optional instructions can occupy useful chart space after a reader has learned the dashboard. Add a Show/Hide Button from an object's menu so the reader can collapse that object and bring it back. In Tableau Desktop authoring, Alt-click runs the button; readers use a normal click in a published view. Keep essential definitions visible even when optional help is hidden.
A URL action connects a mark to a page outside the workbook. Use Dashboard > Actions > Go to URL, then insert a field token into a complete address. The referenced field must be present in the source view. Menu is often a useful trigger because a normal click can still select or filter without opening another page.
Values with spaces or reserved characters need encoding. Test the resulting address with an actual mark. A saved URL template can look correct while its inserted value points to the wrong record. The exercises use reserved example domains for fictional reports.
