A prompt asks the report runner for a value at runtime. The prompt doesn't filter anything by itself: a filter must reference it. Use a clear prompt name and a value type that matches the field, such as an organization ID for organizationId or an ISO date for hireDate.
Separate the definition from the current response. A report prompted for Engineering should be reusable for Finance without editing its saved filter. Check inclusive date boundaries when a prompt controls a period. A blank response needs a deliberate meaning; silently treating it as a specific department can hide records. In this tenant, enter the requested response explicitly so you can inspect which rows the filter retained.
