A service mix and margin decline
Aspen Maintenance sold 60 standard visits with contribution of 20 units each and 40 specialist visits at 50 units each last month. This month it sold 90 standard and 30 specialist visits at the same unit contribution; fixed costs are unknown. Diagnose the change using these case assumptions.

Mid standard
- Last month contribution was 60 times 20 plus 40 times 50, which is 3200 across 100 visits or 32 per visit. This month it's 90 times 20 plus 30 times 50, which is 3300 across 120 visits or 27.5 per visit. Total rises by 100 while contribution per visit falls.
- I would compare demand, bookings and completed visits by service because an unavailable specialist can look like weak demand. I also check cancellations and how visits are classified before crediting a marketing or pricing explanation.
- I recommend investigating the specialist bottleneck before changing prices because the mix shift reduces contribution per visit while total contribution still rises. I would pilot one capacity or scheduling change and measure incremental contribution after its added cost.
